feministism:

did not even think about this.

if net neutrality is taken away, your parents are gonna know every website you go on because now they have to pay for each of those websites.

you have a private tumblr/instagram/twitter/etc where you rant about your day or talk about your mental health and express your feelings without having to worry about judgement from irl family/friends/peers? if net neutrality is taken away, now they’ll have to know about it. have an account dedicated to porn, posting nudes, or sex? well, if net neutrality is gone, it’s taken away. not supposed to be online talking to strangers because of strict parents? there goes that too.

not only is all that lost (something that has honestly gotten me through some hard periods in my life because of my online friends and the ability to talk freely about what I’m going through without my parents knowing every detail), but now you can’t just search whatever you want and get that information right away. whether you need to look up something for math help, have a question about when a celebrities birthday is, or want to look at pictures of cute dogs: that is all monitored and can be blocked if your internet service provider deems it unnecessary or doesn’t want you to look at it. to my knowledge, you have to pay for all of that.

(mentioning this because expressing creativity is near and dear to my heart) net neutrality is going to make things so much harder for content creators, like YouTubers and artists and cartoonists and writers and photographers that share their work and get their following online. !!net neutrality is going to make just about everything harder, except for large corporations!!

in such a technological world, this. isn’t. FAIR. this isn’t RIGHT. and we can’t let these rich people who want even more money take away our internet!!

contact your representatives and spread the word. I’ve heard that it’s not acceptable to fill out net neutrality related things online and send them emails because of too many bots sending it to them. call them, write them. I know phone-calls can be scary and awkward (I recommend writing or typing out exactly what you want to say to them), but please consider taking the five minutes to talk to them to help save our internet.

this is an actual thing. this isn’t a joke. if we don’t do something about it, the internet as we know it and as we love it is going to change drastically, and not for the better.

I WILL BE CENSORED AFTER DEC 14TH

Good, I’ve got your attention. I’ve heard about this net neutrality bullshit returning. I fought it when it started popping up a few years ago, and I’m going to fight it again. Guys, it’s BACK AGAIN and even worse theres a big chance it will END UP PASSING!

https://www.battleforthenet.com/#bftn-action-form

This could literally mean a shit ton of you wont be able to see me anymore if your provider decides that they want to regulate/censor, sayyy overly sexual content. You’ll also have to pay extra money to even use Tumblr!

https://www.battleforthenet.com/#bftn-action-form

Please guys, we defeated this shit once, we can do it again. They’re trying to do it now while people are distracted by the holidays and fucking Justice League. As of today, it seems as though there have only been 266,810 calls made to Congress. This is NOT good enough!! MILLIONS of people use the net, and if each one of them took 60 seconds to call and protect it, holy balls do you KNOW how much of a difference that would make??? But noooo, you’re busy streaming an ecchi anime that wont be available to you soon!!!!!

Heres a direct link to make a difference (theres also links to other sites of the same nature on here), and yes, YOU can make a fucking difference because this is YOUR internet at stake hereIf you’re not going to make the call, share this and maybe SOMEONE fucking will!! This is important as shit and we cant afford to lose. Dec 14th is the deadline.

https://www.battleforthenet.com/#bftn-action-form

I know this doesn’t sound important but….

The reason they started this again is because… the timing.

Coincidence? I think NOT.

Everyone is so obsessed with something else, The FCC are manipulating us.

I seriously don’t want to give up Tumblr and YouTube all together because of this crap..

😥

They’re deleting it every 20 hours too, don’t stop rebloging this!

Im sorry yet again another non space orc post, but for the sake of our concepts stories ideas and Everything we have ever made online, dont let net neutrality die, there are no benefits to removing it. Fight for our internet!

Millennials are Killing the Internet

I’ve already commented on one post, but I can’t with a clean conscience sit by without making my own.

I see so many posts about Net Neutrality, and while I think it’s tremendous how many of you are emailing the FCC, some of those emails aren’t going to change minds.

Some of you are emailing the chairman himself. Ajit Pai was a former Verison employee. It doesn’t matter how many emails you send to him. You could literally tell him that you depend on the Internet’s resources to live, and he would not bat an eye.

Many of you are putting in your emails that hospitals and schools will see troubles. I appreciate the effort, but when these men are the very same men who have already taken SO MUCH from hospitals and schools, will they?

What you NEED to do, is speak their language. That language is dollar signs. Make your voice sound like MONEY THEY WILL BE LOSING.

We live in a nation where restaurants are failing because no one can afford a $20 meal anymore. What makes the FCC think we can afford more than $60 Internet? E-commerce is essential to the US economy. If users are forced to go through paywall after paywall, they will STOP purchasing anything off the Internet. The nosedive in stocks will be the likes of nothing you’ve ever seen.

Without the freedom to choose which websites we visit, the internet, for many of you on Tumblr like me, will become virtually meaningless. Make THAT the message you spread to these two “Yes votes.” Tell them that if the Internet becomes just like cable TV, which none of us are able to afford, they will LOSE the few dollars we have.

They’ll be interested in hearing that.

These are the emails of the two FCC members voting “yes” on the repeal of NN. If anyone’s mind is going to be changed. It has to be one of these guys. And it has to be before December 14th.

If we speak their language, there may still be hope. Good luck, everyone.

The FCC is killing the internet, really. But the rest of your points are good so I’m still reblogging this.

I have a new version of the post with a different title if you would like to reblog that one. The title was a metaphor that not everyone understood. Basically it was “Millenials aren’t killing the Internet yet, but we will be if we have to pay so much for it.” If you click “source” on the post you can see the new title!

Thank you! 🙂

yall its been real but if net neutrality gets booted there is no way in HELL i am ever paying to use tumblr

the ironic thing to me is that yahoo is trying to end net neutrality, yet for some reason they believe they’re privileged enough be exempt from millenials’ total lack of brand loyalty

the core majority of tumblr’s userbase is millenials and people in their 30s who use this website for free or very rarely pay for services. Even tumblr’s so-called ‘celebrities’ who are regularly paying for services are majority 40-and-unders who have historically crafted their brand out of resources that are available under net neutrality and low-cost websites (Youtube, Twitter, WordPress, deviantart, Facebook, etc).

even if yahoo intends to fully alienate unpaying users and create a website that caters exclusively to those rich enough to pay monthly or weekly fees, the reality is that millenials really do hold the power to ‘kill off’ businesses that require an arbitrarily large monetary investment

as a group, we simply do not care about brand loyalty and we’re known to flagrantly flout the traditional corporate mindset of ‘they’ll pay if they’re desperate enough for what we offer’ in favor of lower-cost solutions

And while it’s probably true that if tumblr begins to fail due to the addition of micro-charging fees, then Yahoo will still be able to safely shut down the website and cut their losses, the reality is that millenials are well-known to react to that kind of corporate greed with ugly smear campaigns that make the company look bad and lose support over time. I doubt that kind of backlash would pair well with the loss of advertising dollars that Yahoo is currently generating from a low-cost, net neutral tumblr.

so, yeah. there’s a reason op currently has just under 50,000 notes on this post. the likelihood is that the vast majority of us will simply stop using the internet as much as we currently do if net neutrality is revoked. Not only will this be a huge societal loss, but in the long run–make no mistake–it will lead to the death of the biggest web-based companies due to their failure to generate core revenue.

Edited my post to have a new title

To anyone offended by my NN repeal post, “Millenials are Killing the Internet,” that was never my intention. I should have been much clearer with my words, but I wasn’t thinking about that at the moment. The intention of the metaphor was “Millenials are not killing the Internet yet, but we will be if we have to pay so much for it.” But since that wasn’t clear, I have created a new version without that title. The new version still has an attention-grabbing title, just not one focusing on millennials.

It was a badly worded, badly timed metaphor. I’d never wish to say anything bad about millennials, when I am one myself. If anyone can, I would like for them to reblog the new and improved version of the post.

Thank you for your time and sorry for any confusion!

Cheers,

Tiff.

Don’t let this title fool you; there are very valid points to this. As much as we’d love to bring people around to our side via empathy, money speaks louder and always has.

The title was a large mistake on my part, considering a lot of people didn’t get the metaphor. I now have an edited version featuring an explination for it!

I would love for you to reblog the new version if you can!

Just hit source and reblog, thank you!

Email your reps, they might be able to listen to you. Ajit Pai will not. The FCC will not. Please email your representatives, they will listen.

Your reps have 0 power in this decision so don’t do that. Don’t even waste your time tbth.

Also, I have since edited this post. Carr worked under Pai at Verison, and some folks sharing this didn’t get that the title was a metaphor. If you both, and anyone reading this, could share the new version of the source post, I would greatly appreciate it!

Focus your efforts on Mike O’Rilley!

Thank you!
