To anyone who thinks we should go back to ffnet instead of using ao3 because of its no censorship policy:
-ffnet is famous for taking down THOUSANDS of gay/lgbt (”slash”) fic in the past. they had multiple scandals involving it. this is why ao3 was created in the first place–because ffnet went on a tirade of striking down tons of lgbt content simply because they did not like it and wanted to keep the site “kid friendly”
-ffnet allowed original source authors to sue fanfic creators. they did not help them at all and basically threw them to the wolves
-ffnet does not allow second person fic. one of the biggest fic influencing series is homestuck, primarily written in second person (thank you @happyeffect for reminding me of this)
-ffnet does not allow reader fics, where the reader is a character. it also does not allow any ‘comment based narratives’, meaning that readers can’t suggest what they want a next chapter to be about, nor can authors ask readers to choose a way the story should go. chat fics are also not allowed. neither are song fics.
-ffnet allows almost everything ao3 does with the added bonus of deleting any fic the mods don’t like, having a history of being terrible to the lgbt community, and not allowing anyone to post anything nsfw. as long as its not nsfw, anything you don’t like is still completely fair game, and you can write some pretty fucked up shit without it being nsfw
-ffnet’s website and infrastructure is terrible. it’s a challenge to find ANYTHING on there. it’s one of the most user unfriendly sites i’ve ever had the displeasure of using. also, there’s ads. some of those ads can be nsfw. some of them will give you viruses.
-ffnet hardly ever responds to anything users say. this includes reports.
-in fact, ffnet has a huge fucking problem right now. there’s a virus that’s embedded into effected person’s profiles that’s taking over people’s accounts. it’s infected many, many people on the site. well, you think, the site must being doing something about this! nope. they haven’t said shit about it, nor have they responded to anyone on the matter. ffnet’s administration and support team are near nonexistent. they wont even acknowledge that it’s a problem.
if you want to find/make an alternative to ao3, that’s fine, but please, please don’t say that ffnet is even an option to go back into. please read up on ffnet’s fandom history and you’ll see how terrible they’ve been to both writers and readers.

I see a lot of progressive young people get angry when propaganda for perspectives they agree with is debunked. Back in 2016 I had a lot of people accuse me of supporting Trump because I pointed out that the photo of his parents wearing Klan robes was photoshopped. Obviously I didn’t support Trump, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s best to base your opinions about the world on things that are true and not things that are lies.
It’s important to remember that every single political and social movement produces artificial propaganda. Even the most pure and righteous cause will have supporters creating fake bullshit or manipulating to inspire pathos and conform to a convenient narrative. Try not to fall for it. Many absolutely outrageous claims turn out to be true, while many others turn out to be fabrications designed to sway opinions or undermine the credibility of a movement by introducing seductive fictions. Critical thinking is good. Suspicion is not a sin. The fact that something “feels” true is not real supporting evidence.

Even if you think that “your hamster has fun in it” – please don’t use them!
Pet stores often are very misinformed and sell terrible cages and have little to no idea how to keep a happy hamster – please be careful when trusting them. In the end they often just want to make money – and the hamsters suffer.
Please adopt, not buy hamsters – there are too many hamsters in this world that we need any more breeding.

Plastic is a pollutant and causes far more damage to the environment both now and in the future than leather or wool.
Please stop telling me that the Plastic Lyfe is the only life, it is not. My leather shoes will last a decade where pleather is lucky to last 12 months. Leather (and wool) decompose and are renewable. Plastic is neither of those.

Plastics are also petroleum products, so the impact of their production compounds the impact of their waste!
Especially since non-food-safe plastics are barely subject to regulation as-is & the short product lifespan is considered a feature, not a bug— because it makes people have to go out & buy more new plastic whatevers whenever the old ones wear out or get tossed.
Veganism can absolutely be approached with an environmental angle, but choosing plastic shoes over leather & acrylic socks over wool does about as much to save the world as the last (or next) oil pipeline leak. You’re not a hero because you choose to wear vinyl. You’re just the douche wearing vinyl.
National Coming Out Day is coming up (October 11) and I just want to remind everyone:
1) Please do not out anyone (even if you “think you are doing them a favor.” Trust me when I say you aren’t) and make sure you don’t accidentally do so.
2) It is okay to be in the closet. Please do not feel pressure to/obligated to come out because there so happens to be a Coming Out Day. (Do it for you if it’s what you want).
3) don’t “come out” as LGBT+ as a joke. Don’t “come out” as kinky/a furry/whatever, either.
4) Don’t force/coerce your friends and/or loved ones to come out, and do not get mad at them if they choose to stay closeted.
This is something that more people should be aware of, if only because (in many states, at least) defense attorneys are actually prohibited from mentioning it to jurors. The law allows a jury to return a “not guilty” verdict contrary to the facts of the case, but not for the defense to inform them of that power or to argue for its application in the current trial.

the worker’s cooperation only matters to the rich policy makers if a lack of it is destructive to profit, so their strike works better the less profit is made by the company while its occurring
