I wrote a thing instead of, say, drawing it somehow. Haven’t written in a month and a half, which i should…uh fuckin’ get back to?? But here’s this!
Prompto remembers what Halloween was like before The Fall, as much as his mind let’s him. There were nights spent at home watching cartoons while other kids went out and Trick or Treated. There were nights dressed up in matching costumes with Noctis spent hugging the wall at parties.
Halloween after The Long Night isn’t any different than it used to be. Well, excluding the recent costume selection. Among witches, vampires, black cats and all the classic costumes came Heroes. Not the comic book kind like Prompto was so used to, but the King’s Retinue, kind of heroes.
Watching teens and children walk down the street dressed in replicas of his old Crownsguard uniform was mind boggling to say the least. Some of them were homemade, others store bought. Prompto took plenty of pictures. It almost reminded him of going to that convention with Noctis back in the day.
Prompto didn’t know how to feel about it. There was confusion and flattery. It was awkward and just a bit creepy, but wholesome as well. Little kids ambling around in their old uniforms made him smile and he always made sure they knew how great they looked. The teenagers were lively, and took plenty of selfies with him. He was a little intimidated and highly flustered with the attention.
When it came to those dressing like the old King and Queen, Prompto had a bittersweet smile on his face.
Some people looked too good for his heart to handle, is all.
Part of these costumes are to celebrate their lives and what they had done. It didn’t make it any less painful, but he understood that Noctis was gone, despite how many people looked like him that night.
He laughed at the thought of his lover coming back just to get free candy like the junk food glutton he was.
Noctis totally would.
He got an adorable photo of a boy about ten years old in a costume just a bit too big for him. He made an excellent King Noctis, and made sure to tell him so.
Noctis would have loved this and been equally if not just as embarrassed as Prompto. Prompto knows this for a fact.
